Clive
The short version: Clive uses your information to find you the right roles, help you run your search and get better at helping graduates. We say how that learning works because it is part of the deal, not something to hide in small print.
Last updated: 27 August 2026The public website does not yet collect career profiles or conversations. If you join the early-access list, we use your contact details to manage that list and send the updates you asked for. The sections about profiles, conversations, matching and applications apply once you create a Clive account and use the career service.
Clive Careers Ltd (company no. 17417935, 66 Paul Street, London EC2A 4NA) is the data controller, which means we are responsible for deciding how and why your personal information is used.
Privacy questions, legal requests and complaints: [email protected].
ICO registration number: registration pending. The number will appear here once the ICO issues it.
Early access and account details. Your name, email address, login details and any information you choose to send us.
Your career profile. Your CV, university, degree, grades including A-level results, experience, skills, location, salary expectations, right-to-work or visa needs, role preferences and career ambitions.
Your conversations with Clive. What you tell Clive about your background, interests, goals and job search. If voice conversations are introduced, this may include an audio recording and transcript.
What your search generates. The roles Clive shows you, what you save or reject, applications and their progress, interview stages, offers, rejections, feedback you give us and, if you tell us, the role you eventually take.
Technical and usage information. Device and browser information, IP address, security logs, product interactions and the cookies or similar technologies described in the cookie policy.
Information from elsewhere. If you ask us to connect another service or import a public professional profile, we receive the information you choose to connect. We record its source. Employers and public careers pages provide the vacancy information Clive searches.
Clive also creates inferences from this information, such as which roles appear to fit your stated preferences. Those inferences may be wrong, and you can correct them.
To provide Clive. We build your profile, rank and explain roles, support applications and track the search you have asked Clive to help with. This is necessary to perform our contract with you.
To support and operate the service. We respond to support requests, diagnose faults and administer accounts. We rely on our contract with you and our legitimate interest in operating a reliable service.
To protect Clive and comply with the law. We secure accounts, prevent misuse, investigate incidents, establish or defend legal claims and do what regulators or courts lawfully require. We rely on our legitimate interests or a legal obligation, depending on the activity.
To teach Clive. We analyse how the service performs and use selected profiles, conversations, feedback and outcomes to test, evaluate and improve Clive. This can include improving prompts, matching methods, evaluation datasets and models. We rely on our legitimate interest in making the service more accurate and useful, balanced against your rights.
To understand graduate careers over time. We connect what people wanted at the start of a search with applications and later outcomes. This long-term research is intended to make future advice more useful and produce statistics about graduate careers. We rely on our legitimate interests and use pseudonymisation and aggregation to reduce the privacy impact.
To contact you. We send service messages such as matches, deadlines, security notices and application reminders as part of the service. We rely on our contract with you for those messages. Optional marketing or early-access updates are based on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
We document our assessment before relying on legitimate interests. You can object to those uses by emailing [email protected].
Authorised members of the Clive team and carefully selected service providers may review conversations when they need to improve quality, evaluate results, investigate a problem, provide support or keep the service safe. Access is limited, logged and subject to confidentiality.
Before identifiable conversation data enters a general training or evaluation dataset, we remove direct identifiers and apply safeguards designed to reduce the chance of a person being identified. Our AI providers are contracted to process the information for us, not to use it to train their general models for their own purposes.
You can opt out of your identifiable conversations being selected for future training or evaluation by emailing [email protected]. Opting out does not reduce the service you receive. It does not undo improvements already made using information that no longer identifies you.
Clive profiles your interests and automatically ranks roles. He makes recommendations, not decisions about whether you can apply or be hired. Employers make their own decisions under their own processes, so Clive's ranking does not itself have a legal or similarly significant effect on you.
If we introduce automated processing that does make a significant decision about you, we will explain it before it is used and provide the safeguards required by law, including a way to ask for human review and contest the decision.
Career conversations can touch on health, disability, ethnicity, religion, sexuality, trade-union membership or other specially protected information. Please share only what is relevant to the help you want.
We do not intentionally use this special-category information to train or improve the general service unless we first obtain your separate, explicit consent. If it is disclosed incidentally, we restrict, redact or remove it from improvement datasets where reasonably possible. You can withdraw consent and ask us to remove it at any time by emailing [email protected].
Service providers. Companies that provide hosting, databases, security, communications, analytics and AI processing. They may use the information only to provide their contracted service to us.
Employers, when you ask. Viewing, saving or rejecting a role does not reveal your identity to the employer. We share your identity, contact details or application materials only when you explicitly ask Clive to submit, introduce or otherwise act for you, or when the product clearly asks for your agreement first.
Professional advisers and authorities. Lawyers, accountants, insurers, regulators, courts or public authorities where reasonably necessary or legally required.
A future owner. If Clive Careers Ltd is reorganised, bought or merged, relevant information may transfer with the business. We will tell you about a material change and the information remains protected by data-protection law.
We do not sell identifiable personal information. We may publish, license or sell statistics and insights that have been aggregated or anonymised so they do not identify individuals.
Some service providers may process information outside the UK. Before that happens, we use a lawful transfer mechanism and appropriate safeguards, such as UK adequacy regulations or approved contractual protections. Email [email protected] if you would like information about the safeguards used for a particular provider.
We keep personal information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy. In deciding how long that is, we consider the type and sensitivity of the information, whether your account or job search is active, its value to Clive's long-term research and improvement, the risks of keeping it, and any legal, security or dispute-related requirements.
We review retained information periodically. When personal information is no longer needed, we delete it or anonymise it. We may keep genuinely anonymised statistics and research results indefinitely because they can no longer identify you.
Email [email protected] and we will delete information that identifies or can reasonably be linked to you, unless we must keep a minimal record for a legal obligation or active legal claim. This includes removing your information from active systems and future training or evaluation datasets. Isolated backup copies are not used for any new purpose and are deleted through the normal backup cycle.
We may retain statistics or research results only when they have been anonymised so they can no longer reasonably identify you. Your right to erasure is not absolute, but if an exception applies we will explain why.
We use technical and organisational measures appropriate to the risk, including access controls, encryption where appropriate, supplier reviews and logging of sensitive access. No online service can promise perfect security, but protecting this information is part of how Clive is designed and operated.
Depending on the circumstances, UK data-protection law gives you the right to:
Exercise a right by emailing [email protected]. We normally respond within one month. We do not charge unless the law allows it, and we may need to verify your identity first.
The Information Commissioner's Office is at ico.org.uk and can also be contacted by telephone on 0303 123 1113.
Clive is intended for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect career profiles or conversations from children. If that changes, we will introduce the additional notices and protections required for younger users before offering them the service.
The current version and its date always live on this page. We will give reasonable notice of material changes. A new policy does not by itself make an incompatible new use of information lawful, so we will ask for consent where the law requires it.
